PERODUA continues its strong run by recording its highest ever monthly sales in January 2018. This was a sales volume of 17,693 cars or above 40 per cent of the estimated total industry volume (TIV) of 43,930 for the opening month of the year.
This handsome number was achieved based on the deliveries of 9029 Myvis, 4085 Axias, 2776 Bezzas and 1803 Alzas. Needless to say, the extremely good response to the new Myvi has underscored Perodua’s bullish run to start the Dog year.
Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said the new Myvi racked up more than 48,000 bookings as of early February and close to 20,000 cars were delivered since then. He personally presented the 18,000th (for want of an auspicious number) new Myvi to Wong Wai Cheng of Negeri Sembilan during the press event.
Wong, 25, was all smiles when he received the keys to his striking Lava Red Myvi 1.5 Advance. “The minute I laid eyes on the new Myvi and saw how many sophisticated features I was getting for the price, I knew it was the vehicle for me,” adding that the built-in toll card reader was his favourite feature.
Overall, more than a million Myvis were registered in Malaysia since its launch in 2005. Datuk (Dr) Aminar urged those who had placed orders for the new Myvi and had yet to receive their cars to be a little patient. “We sincerely apologise for the wait. Rest assured we are ramping up production to get the cars to you as quickly as we can. The Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd plant will continue to work overtime until demand stabilises.”
He also said Perodua was looking to purchase above RM5 billion in components and parts this year, mainly from local vendors. He believed this would further contribute towards the growth of the Malaysian economy. All Perodua models have more than 90 per cent local content.
